At 18 the child must move onto a standard Student visa to keep studying in the UK; they cannot keep extending the Child Student visa as an adult.
The Child Student visa is designed for minors, so it cannot carry on indefinitely once the holder becomes an adult.
When the child turns 18, they need to switch to the main Student visa if they want to continue their education in the UK, provided they meet that route's requirements. Planning this transition before the 18th birthday avoids a gap in lawful status.
