EB-1 covers people of extraordinary ability, outstanding professors and researchers, and certain multinational managers or executives, each with its own criteria.
Extraordinary ability is for individuals at the very top of their field in the sciences, arts, education, business or athletics, shown through sustained national or international acclaim. This subcategory allows self-petitioning.
The outstanding professor or researcher subcategory is for those with international recognition and at least three years of teaching or research experience, coming for a permanent or tenure-track role; an employer must petition. The multinational manager or executive subcategory is for people who worked abroad in a managerial or executive role for a qualifying related company for at least one year in the past three years and are transferring to a US entity in a similar capacity. Choosing the right subcategory upfront shapes the evidence you need.
