What language level do I need for the Federal Skilled Trades Program?

You need at least Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) 5 in speaking and listening and CLB 4 in reading and writing.

The FSTP has lower language requirements than some other Express Entry programs, reflecting the practical, hands-on nature of skilled trades. You must reach at least CLB 5 in speaking and listening, and at least CLB 4 in reading and writing, in English or French.

You prove this with an approved language test. While these are the minimums to be eligible, stronger language results improve your Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score and your chances of receiving an invitation to apply.
