Because the permit is tied to one employer, you generally must apply for a new work permit before starting work for a different employer.
An employer-specific permit only authorizes work for the employer named on it. If you stop working for that employer or want to switch, your existing permit does not transfer to a new company.
To work for a different employer you normally need a new work permit application, which may require a fresh LMIA-exempt offer through the employer portal or, in some cases, an LMIA. It is important not to begin the new job until you are authorized, since unauthorized work can jeopardize your status and future applications.
