Residence is counted by the stamps in your passport and valid IRP cards; where two permissions overlap, the overlapping months are only counted once.
Immigration Service Delivery calculates your residence by looking at the actual stamps endorsed in your passport and the validity dates of your IRP cards. Gaps where you held no valid permission are excluded.
If you held more than one permission at the same time, the overlapping period is counted only once rather than doubled. This means it is the continuous span of lawful residence that matters, so keeping your registration up to date and avoiding lapses is important.
