If you are 18 or over, you can usually stay up to 5 years for degree-level study, or up to 2 years for courses below degree level.
The length of a Student visa depends on the level and length of your course. Adults studying at degree level can normally be granted leave for up to 5 years, while courses below degree level are usually limited to around 2 years.
Your permission is tied to your course dates plus some extra time before and after. If you are under 18, you may need a Child Student visa instead. Always check the exact dates on your visa decision, because they set when you must leave or extend.
