You must show you are of good character, which covers your criminal record, immigration history, finances and honesty in dealings with UK authorities.
All adult applicants must satisfy the good character requirement. This is assessed broadly and goes well beyond serious crime.
The Home Office looks at criminal convictions, but also at things like immigration breaches (such as overstaying or working in breach of conditions), tax and financial conduct, and whether you have been honest in your dealings with the authorities. Recent or serious issues can lead to refusal, so disclose matters fully rather than risk an application being found deceptive.
