The first permit is issued for the duration of the research stated in the hosting agreement, up to a maximum of one year, and it can be renewed in further periods until the work is complete.
Your initial temporary residence permit for research is tied to the length of the work set out in the hosting agreement, but it is capped at one year for the first issuance.
If your project runs longer, the permit can be renewed for successive periods until the research is finished, provided you still meet the conditions and apply before the current permit expires. Plan renewals ahead of time, since letting the permit lapse can interrupt both your legal stay and your research.
